Summary/Abstract: This dossier opens with a literary survey inviting Romanian and international scholars and critics to reflect on Mircea Cărtărescu’s position within the Romanian literary canon and the international literary circuit. Although Cărtărescu has become the most internationally acclaimed contemporary Romanian writer, receiving major literary awards and enjoying extensive translation and critical reception worldwide, his work has not yet benefited from a comprehensive critical reassessment in Romanian literary studies. The survey addresses key questions concerning the mechanisms of his canonization, the relationship between his domestic and international reception, the sources of his symbolic capital, and his place within broader literary traditions and transnational networks. The dossier is organized into three sections: an opening interview with the author based on these issues, a series of responses and essays generated by the literary survey, and a final section of scholarly studies offering new perspectives on Cărtărescu’s work. Together, these contributions aim to reassess the significance of his oeuvre in both national and international contexts and to advance the understanding of what may be called the “Cărtărescu case.”
