Summary/Abstract: The process of healing or comforting those lying in suffering has never been, nor should it ever be, seen solely as an exclusive work of human power and effort, expressed through medical and social acts. From a Christian perspective, the healing of the sick is primarily a manifestation of divine power, as wonderfully demonstrated by our Savior Jesus Christ, who came into the world to heal all humanity of its sin. Selfless and sincere love expressed toward those around us, especially when they are going through illness or suffering, is an existential imperative of the Gospel of Christ. Love is what activates the willingness to give oneself unreservedly to serving our suffering neighbor. Out of love, one puts oneself in the place of the afflicted, prays fervently for them, and seeks constantly to comfort them, being, at the same time, rewarded by Christ with divine comfort. Family is not only a God-blessed framework for procreation and perpetuation of humankind but also the place where family members support one another, working toward personal and communal perfection and sanctification.
