Aviation Unit of the 4th Rifle Division in Kuban and Odessa in the years 1918-1919

Summary/Abstract: This article describes the history of the Aviation Unit formed in the autumn of 1918 in Kuban as part of the 4th Rifle Division of General Lucjan Żeligowski. The history of this unit is little known, so the aim here is to present it based on available literature and documents in the Central Military Archives in Warsaw. In December 1918, the unit (together with the division) was transported to Odessa, where its soldiers helped defend the city. In February 1919, the unit was renamed the Aviation Squadron of the 4th Rifle Division, which left Odessa in April and arrived to Romania. From there, in June 1919, it reached Eastern Galicia, where it was finally incorporated into the Polish Army as the 10th Aviation Squadron.
