Summary/Abstract: The connection between music and literature dates back to antiquity, with the interplay between notes and ink changing human perception of art. This conceptual analysis examines three case studies in which music and text intertwine to form an authentic self: Nietzsche’s views in “The Birth of Tragedy” (1872), Virginia Woolf’s creative methods in the novel “The Waves” (1931), and punk rock legend Patti Smith’s journey in the song “Gloria” (1975). Nietzsche contrasts Dionysian chaos and Apollonian order; Woolf mixes rhythm with words in a symphonic novel; Smith recites poetry along with the sound of her guitar. Thus, the three, living in different eras and dealing with different challenges, embody one thing: authenticity in creativity. Would the story be the same if the works discussed were created by artificial intelligence? And are there still authentic creators in an era when artificial intelligence writes and composes in seconds?
