Summary/Abstract: The aim of this text is to present the scientific and organizational work of Professor Józef Jan Miąso and its significance for the history of education. The article was written on the occasion of the scholar's 95th birthday. It focuses primarily on (1) key aspects of the Professor's scientific and professional biography, (2) his views on the study and teaching of the history of education and upbringing, and (3) his role in the development of the community of historians of education and the evaluation of other researchers' scientific achievements. The article also emphasizes the important conclusions that emerge from the Professor's biography for research into the history of education. The analysis of the scholar's biography shows that important principles for those studying the pedagogical past include the reliability of scientific research, concern for the development of the academic community, and criticism combined with leniency when assessing the work of other scholars. The text is based on earlier studies dedicated to the Jubilarian, several of his publications and articles documenting the activities of historians of education and upbringing, and on his autobiographical study. These sources are supplemented by publications on the development of the history of education in Poland.
