Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to show the activities and views of Fr. Teofi l Łękawski on the importance of pedagogical knowledge in the training of catechists. Fr. Łękawski was a catechist, educator, director of a teachers’ seminary and a seminary. In the refl ections presented, issues are presented concerning: the activities of Fr. Łękawski, his views on the essence of catechesis and its relationship with other disciplines, and his conception of the pedagogical knowledge necessary for the training of catechists. The presentation of the topic undertaken is important in that Fr. Łękawski refers not only to the pedagogical knowledge of the time in demonstrating the relationship between pedagogical knowledge and catechetics, but also to his own extensive experience and long-standing pedagogical practice.
