Summary/Abstract: This essay examines the differences and similarities in motifs between Luke-Acts and apologetic literature with regard to both political and intellectual issues. It will be explored whether the apologetic motifs identified in Luke-Acts from a modern perspective are also relevant in the patristic reception, with regard to politics on the one hand (Acts 5:29; 16:21; 24:5), to intellectuality on the other (Acts 4:13; 17:18 concerning Christian uneducatedness, Acts 16:17; 19:13–20 concerning Christian self-dissociation from magic; Acts 14:15–17; Acts 17,22–31 concerning Christianity and Greco-Roman philosophical theology).
