Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the integration of the concept of sustainability in the construction sector, with a particular focus on the Romanian context. The main objective is to highlight the role of sustainable construction in spatial planning and sustainable development of communities, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. The research explores the international and European framework, highlighting the relevance of European Union policies and directives in the transition to sustainable practices. Specifically, the study examines the challenges and opportunities in Romania, including the adoption of European standards for energy efficiency, the circular economy and waste management. Legislative gaps, the difficulties of unitary implementation at local level and the importance of community involvement in decision-making processes are discussed. The role of spatial planning in establishing rules for sustainable urban development is also analyzed. The conclusions suggest that the promotion of sustainable construction in Romania requires an integrated approach, based on clear regulations, financial support and public involvement, as a foundation for the development of sustainable and resilient communities.
