Summary/Abstract: Biodiversity, sustainable land and forest management are key priorities for the European Union in the context of combating climate change and promoting sustainable development. Based on Articles 3, 11 and 191-193 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), European legislation integrates measures to conserve natural habitats, protect wild species, restore degraded ecosystems and prevent deforestation. The EU actively participates in international conventions such as the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Paris Agreement, supporting initiatives such as the Natura 2000 network, the 2030 Forest and Biodiversity Strategy, as well as regulations on invasive alien species. In addition, the land use, land use change and forestry sector contribute significantly to achieving climate objectives by absorbing greenhouse gases (GHGs).
