Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the 20th century, near the city of Brașov, two sensitive souls met, nurturing feelings of love that remained unrequited for the rest of their lives: that of a poet, Octavian Goga (1881-1938) and that of a painter, Aurelia Rusu (1882-1975). They dreamed and hoped to study together in Budapest, but fate decreed otherwise and the young man married earlier than he would have wished, leaving Aurelia’s heart torn with grief. She withdrew, until the end of her life, to a small village called Bontăieni, in Maramureș County, working as a schoolteacher and contributing to the moral, cultural, and religious uplift of the area. Even today, fifty years after her death, the inhabitants of these lands still remember “The Lady” with gratitude, lighting candles at her grave and praying for the salvation of her soul.
