Summary/Abstract: War in Ukraine stirs fear among the populations of Central and Eastern Europe. The Suwałki Gap whimpers with painful recollections. A thin layer of time conceals stories of the traumatic past of Soviet and Nazi crimes, and deeper – grim recollections of the Polish-Lithuanian conflict of 1919–1923. When the authors of the Krasnogruda Kastalia transferred their life abroad the world was just beginning to use Francis Fukuyama’s “end of history” metaphor. Today, however, we see that history has returned and new borders arise with a speed characteristic for algorithms. If something terrible was to take place in the least safe place in present-day Europe the followers of the “Borderland” idea know how they would certainly not act in the face of an unfamiliar future.
