Summary/Abstract: In this article, we seek to study the role of visual aids in the assessment of foreign language proficiency, based on the DELE exams administered at levels A1 and A2. To determine this, we will analyze the Exam models provided by the Instituto Cervantes, along with their respective Exam Guides and Exam Specifications, in order to identify and classify the different graphic elements used in the tests from the perspective of their function. We will be particularly interested in those uses that could be interpreted as a kind of reinforcement of the examinee's strategic competence by the authors of the analyzed items. The study will focus on tests aimed at a basic user with limited competence, due to a high degree of dependence of their communicative success on the willingness to cooperate expressed by their interlocutor.
