Summary/Abstract: The Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera [Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language], or DELE, are official diplomas that certify the holder's degree of fluency in Spanish. In more than 30 years of their history, the DELE have experienced numerous changes, adapting to new social conditions, benefiting from the achievements of applied linguistics and submitting to the guidelines of the language policy of the European Union. As a result of the implementation of the latest recommendations of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment. Companion Volume, we can observe a growing presence in the DELE exams of components focused in the evaluation of the mediating competence of users of Spanish as a foreign language perceived as social agents. Although tasks related to the use of mediation have been present in the DELE exams prior to the publication of the aforementioned document in 2020, in April and May 2024 C1 and C2 level exams were released with sections dedicated par excellence to the evaluation of competencies in written and oral expression, mediation and interaction. In the present study we analyze how the descriptors for the three groups of mediation activities with respective strategies are reflected in the renewed DELE exams.
