Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this study is to analyse the expression of obligation in Spanish and Polish, in particular some forms of personal obligation (verbal periphrasis) and to compare them with corresponding Polish equivalents. We examine these units in terms of translation study: we search for Spanish periphrasis and for their Polish equivalents in translation, and describe them with the objective to present some comparative observations. Since in Polish language there are no verbal periphrasis, we observe different methods of translation of Spanish units and we analyse if they express the same modality.
