Summary/Abstract: The challenges of sustainable development are now seen by a growing number of actors and modernize existing the practices to sustainable practices (mobility, housing, shopping, etc..) and it’s a more valid starting point to promote the environmental governance. The modernization and development of the retail sector after the Romania jointed to European Union (1st January 2007) have provide to an emergency process of this sector under the foreign direct investment impact of our country. This paper aims the new distribution formulas of the Romanian retail activity which induce the effects to the urban configuration area of Romania and oblige the public authorities to implement the new urban marketing strategies to limit the retail networks’ development out of the city following that the new types of retail stores to improve the commerce contribution focus to „the urban sustainable development and the life quality” of the Romanian cities, also.
