Summary/Abstract: The author’s entry reconstructs the evolution of the term “hitlerowiec” (Hitlerite) in Polishliterature and culture; from occupation-era folklore and postwar demonization to currentpop-culture transformations. The author highlights the tensions between the terms“Hitlerite,” “Nazi,” and “Fascist” by examining their functioning in the discourse of the PolishPeople’s Republic and after 1989. The article discusses literary portraits of the perpetrator:the sadist, the technocrat, the intellectual, the mystic, but also the figure of the femaletorturer.
