Summary/Abstract: The relationship between climate policy and religion has become an increasingly important topic in the global conversation about the climate crisis and environmental challenges. This article explores the role of religion in advancing environmental goals, focusing on the Catholic Church under the leadership of Pope Francis. With Christians comprising over half of the world’s GDP despite representing only 23% of the global population, their potential influence on the global economy and politics is substantial. The dual role of religious believers, as both members of faith communities and citizens of their nations, in promoting climate action is also examined. The article explores how Pope Francis’s environmental mission, as exemplified by his encyclical Laudato si’, bridges political and religious spheres. Through a systemic analysis, the study investigates the hypothesis that the integration of political and religious efforts drives the promotion of environmental sustainability and raises public awareness of climate issues. Pope Francis’ approach illustrates how religion can be a powerful force in shaping global climate policy.
