Summary/Abstract: The evolution of village cores in Transylvania initially unfolded as inhabitants continuously sought to acquire and expand agricultural land. Later, driven by the necessity to preserve arable space, settlement patterns became more concentrated. The study of the spatial development of village cores is a relatively recent interdisciplinary research field that integrates historical sources with specialized analytical techniques. This study aims to critically evaluate the documentary sources, methods, and techniques employed in such analyses, contributing to the refinement of historical monographs on local settlements.
