Summary/Abstract: This study explores the role of the Romanian cultural press in the northwestern regions of Bihor, Arad, and Sãtmar between 1919 and 1940 in shaping and consolidating the Romanian national consciousness. Focusing on the interwar period, the paper examines how various publications, ranging from renowned ones such as “Familia,” “Cele Trei Criºuri,” and “Afirmarea,” to lesser-known but influential local journals, acted as vehicles for promoting the Romanian language, identity, and culture in multiethnic and politically contested border regions. By analyzing editorial strategies, cultural programs, and key contributors, the authors highlight how these periodicals facilitated the integration of Romanian communities into the framework of Greater Romania following the 1918 Union. The article also underscores the important role of educators, intellectuals, and journalists in supporting these efforts, often under challenging financial and political circumstances. Ultimately, the study presents the interwar Romanian press as a cornerstone of national consolidation and cultural modernization in the country’s western territories.
