Summary/Abstract: The phenomenon of social proof and its significance in the design of user experiences for digital products is analyzed. Social proof - a mechanism whereby individuals are guided by the behavior of others-plays a pivotal role in building trust and increasing conversion rates in online environments. This paper presents a definition of social proof, its psychological foundations - including informational and normative conformity - and its diverse manifestations: from reviews and ratings, to recommendations and case studies, to numerical popularity indicators and community activity. The effectiveness of implementing social proof in User Experience (UX) design is discussed, alongside potential risks associated with its unethical use, such as fake reviews, manipulative design patterns (dark patterns), and astroturfing. The paper emphasizes that authenticity, transparency, and a precise alignment of strategy with product type and user profile are essential for the effective and ethical application of this mechanism.
