Summary/Abstract: This study examines the role of asceticism and repentance in the spiritual teaching of St. Sophrony Sakharov (1896-1993), disciple of St. Silouan the Athonite. In his vision, ascetic practice is not reduced to moral effort, but constitutes an ontological path of transformation, through which the human being becomes aware of his fallenness and opens himself to divine grace. Repentance, understood not as a preliminary stage but as a continuous existential state, is rooted in humility and in the experience of „keeping the mind in hell without despair”. Ultimately, asceticism and repentance appear as essential conditions for communion with Christ and for the participation of the human person in divine life.
