Summary/Abstract: Between 1508-1830 (in the so-called „early Romanian book period”) in Romanian area, most of the books were ecclesiastical. Medicine – also called „divine art”, because it was supposed to deal with two important things given by God: health and human life – is an important subject that concerned people for a long time. Due to this, the graphics of the early Romanian books also contains themes related to medicine. Although they appeared in different printing centres (within the Romanian territory, or abroad), in various techniques and in either religious or secular books with different themes, we believe that the images discussed here, although few in number compared to what was printed in other European countries, still created a certain impression (with a positive impact) on the readers of the time about the idea of medicine: about illnesses that could be either cured (spiritually or by medicine) or not (causing death), or about some personalities in the field (God, gods, saints, doctors).
