Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the issue of emolument of Polish civil service officers between years 1918 and 1923. The initial part of the work presents the economic conditions in the first years of the Second Polish Republic and shows their impact on the material status of state employees. The next part includes an analysis of the most important legal acts regulating the principles of remuneration of civil service officers during this period. This refers in particular to the Act of 28 July 1919 on extraordinary cost-related allowances and the Remuneration Act of 13 July 1920. The last issue is the assessment of the adequacy of the remuneration system to the economic realities of the time. The summary also indicates whether it met the expectations of Polish administration employees.
