Summary/Abstract: The study examines the genesis and interpretation of Ján Palárik’s comedy Reconciliation or An Adventure at the Harvest Festival (1862), based on Józef Korzeniowski’s Polish original The Jews (1843), translated into Czech as Honorata (1848) by Honorata z Zapova. While the Czech translation shows only minimal adaptive modifications, Palárik, despite adopting certain scenes identically, intervenes more substantially in the text thematically and compositionally and updates it. Against the backdrop of the staging tradition of Palárik’s work, the study evaluates the dramaturgical interventions into the comedy, including the most recent adaptation presented by the Drama Ensemble of the National Theatre in Košice (2021).
