Summary/Abstract: The paper examines Štúr’s political opinions about the geographical location of Central Europe and its cultural and historical positioning between two major powers, Germany and Russia, in the 1850s. His views are articulated in the treatise entitled Das Slawenthum und die Welt der Zukunft (The Slavonic People and the World of the Future), which established the myth of Tsarist Russia as the Slavonic saviour. Furthermore, the study evaluates the response Štúr’s work elicited from the Slovak intellectual environment, where he was held in high regard for building the national identity.
