REVIEW OF PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE STUDY OF MANIPULATION IN PHOTOGRAPHY

Summary/Abstract: The study of manipulation is connected with many challenges, which are the result of its specificity (according to Barbara Sobczak, the manipulation is an intended action, beneficial for a sender and unaware by the recipient). The aim of the article is to indicate problems related to the study of manipulation in journalistic photography, which, by definition, should be a record of reality and cannot mislead recipients. The author reviewed the literature on the discussed form of exerting influence and also examined how the organizers of World Press Photo and Grand Press Photo define manipulation, what may lead to disqualification of submitted photos and who checks them and how.
