Contemporary Vilnius Polish based on the novel "Robczik" by Bartosz Połoński

Summary/Abstract: B. Połoński’s work can be considered a dictionary novel or even a fictionalized dictionary of Vilnius spoken Polish, used by young people of Polish origin. The novel is accompanied by a rich dictionary provided by the author, placed both on its covers and on individual pages. The definitions were created mainly using colloquial and slang forms, well known to Polish youth, although the author also uses general Polish. Vilnius slang is the result of the fusion of languages (fuxed lects), mainly Polish (general and regional varieties), Russian, Lithuanian, English, Belarusian. Russian borrowings predominate, and to a lesser extent Lithuanian and English. This means that while the most intensive process in youth slang in Poland is its anglicization, Vilnius youth cannot free themselves from the long-term influence of russification.
