Summary/Abstract: The first mentions of the Gypsies (Roma minority) from Bukovina date back to the 15th century, when they are mentioned as workers of landowners, monasteries and princely courts. At the time of the annexation of Bukovina by the Habsburg Empire, there were two categories of Gypsies: nomads and sedentary: 534 sedentary Gypsies and 242 nomads according to the census taken in 1776. In a statistic from 1878, the total number of sedentary Gypsies in Bukovina was then 5295 ethnics, 1,32% of the province's population. After the Great Union, at the Population Census from 1930, the Gypsies minority from Bukovina numbered 2164 ethnics, of which according to the "mother tongue" criterion in the localities of historical Bukovina, only 232 ethnics spoke the Gipsy language. After the annexation of northern Bukovina by the USSR, at the Population Census of April 1941 in the counties of southern Bukovina, on the territory of Bukovina, the Kingdom of Romania, only 471 Roma ethnics were counted, distributed across the three interwar counties as follows: Suceava County – 223 ethnics, Câmpulung County – 182 ethnics and Rădăuți County – 66 ethnics. During the communist period, detailed statistical data on the exact demographic structures of the Gypsies are limited, with 203 ethnics being counted in the 1966 Population Census on the current territory of Suceava County, and 266 ethnics in the 1966 Population and Housing Census. After 1989, an explosive growth of the Gypsies (Roma) population is observed in the southern part of Bukovina in Suceava County: 3576 ethnics in 1992, 6473 ethnics in 2002 and 9384 ethnics in 2011 and 10513 ethnics in 2021. Today, the Roma communities in the southern part of Bukovina are located in the cities of Suceava, Vicovu de Sus, Gura Humorului and especially in the villages: Mironu / Valea Moldovei, Voitinel, Pătrăuţi, Mitocul Dragomirnei, Șcheia, Păltinoasa, Chilișeni / Udești, Voievodeasa / Sucevița, Dornești, Burla.
