Summary/Abstract: Our people was born Christian, a fact demonstrated both by historical sources and by the basic notions of the Orthodox faith, which are words of Latin origin—dating from the period of Roman rule over Dacia. Moreover, the Orthodox faith and the Church, in all their dimensions, have always been present in the daily life of Romanians, as Saint Father Dumitru Stăniloae beautifully showed in his writings: the liturgical gestures performed at the beginning of work or travel, before and after meals, the marking of bread with the sign of the Cross, the icons in the home, the roadside crosses at the crossroads, and many others. Beyond this, the Romanian knew well the Holy Scripture, the teachings and the services of the Church, and these became an integral part of his wisdom.
