Summary/Abstract: Every good deed has its beginning in God. The grace of the Godhead is the spring from which every good deed flows and the root from which it grows. Love, justice, goodness, long‑suffering, mercy, and all other good deeds are fruits of divine grace. For this reason, when a person performs good deeds, he truly becomes a living icon and likeness of God, just as he was created by Him. If a person is full of love, just, good, long-suffering, merciful, and performs only good deeds, then he will resemble the image of God and will become 'God by grace.'" These are the words spoken by Metropolitan Varlaam about good deeds, in his commentary on the Gospel of the Sunday of All Saints.
