Summary/Abstract: This great and renowned teacher of the world was born, most likely, in the year 354, in the city of Antioch in Syria, into a noble Christian family. His father, Secundus, was the commander of the army in Syria, and his mother, Anthousa, of Greek origin, was a cultivated woman. Left orphaned of his father, Saint John was raised by his mother who, although widowed at the age of 20, did not remarry but devoted herself entirely to the education of her two children. Thus, the young John received an excellent education in the most renowned schools, having famous teachers: the rhetor Libanius and the philosopher Andragatius.
