Summary/Abstract: The Orthodox Church in Romanian territories, rightly considered the protector not only of faith, but also of Romanian culture and spirit throughout the centuries, was, on December 1, 1918, the institution that contributed essentially (through its infrastructure and mission) to the national unity of Romanians. For his remarkable contribution to Romanian unity, the bishop of Caransebeș, Elie Miron Cristea, was elected Primate Metropolitan of All Romanians at the end of 1919, and in 1925, he became the first Patriarch of Romania. His clerical career is briefly described in this study.
