Summary/Abstract: The article broadens the understanding of the Council’s formulation “Mary – a sign of hope” by showing its theological and spiritual meaning. Individual parts of the article concern the philosophical and existential background of this formulation, its Christological and Paschal aspects. The article analyzes and proposes a deepening of the term “hope” in the context of the current situation of man and the Church. It shows Mary herself as an excellent example of a Christian living Christian hope, which is based on the biblical image of the Mother of Christ. One of the conclusions that result from the article is, for example, the relevance of the formulation “Mary – a sign of hope” for contemporary man. Contemporary societies, despite some technical and civilizational progress, struggle with a lack of hope, seek the meaning of life and the fullness of life. Mary indicates the directions of these deepest searches.
