Summary/Abstract: Throughout the ages there have been intentions to achieve Christian unity, but this lofty ideal could not be realized, because polemics, sterile ambitions, aggressive proselytizing, often politically directed and imposed, have suffocated the spirit of reconciliation in Christ, widening more and more the differences rather than bringing us closer to unity, to the point of even military action and street fighting with the loss of human lives and material goods, giving the world a spectacle which is totally foreign to the spirit of Christian brotherhood proclaimed by the Gospel of Christ. If hatred and selfishness always bring division, cruelty and death, love, on the other hand, brings altruism, peace and unity to people’s lives and actions.
