Jovan Deretić: Composition of Gorski Vijenac

Summary/Abstract: The analysis of the book by Jovan Deretić was made in the composition of the Gorski vijenac, which was created as a manuscript of the doctoral thesis, which was defended in 1966 at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade, and then published in 1969 in the edition of the Institute for textbooks. It is pointed out on the specificity of Deretic’s literary-historical method in which there is a creative site of contextual and textual approach. It is noticeable in the very definition of the concept of composition, through the study of the genesis of works and the connection with other texts, primarily with Luča mikrokozma, to the interpretation of structural factors (the relation between parts and the whole, the author’s prose notation, dialogues, monologues, the system of characters, etc.) as well as the genre typology of the work. In conclusion, it is pointed out the complete justification of the main Deretić research thesis that the artistic nature of the Gorski Vijenac can not be interpreted as “the norms of traditional poetics”, but on the basis of the criteria and norms derived from the original Njegoš poetics and the main text of the work.
