Summary/Abstract: This article belongs to the current of studies focused on searching for explanations of economic and social regularities occurring in local development. The aim of the study discussed here is to identify the variability of the human capital across gminas of the Lubuskie voivodship in the context of its relationship with their economic situation, administrative status and geographical location. The study was based on data from Statistics Poland for the years 2020–2022, mainly on the results of the National Population and Housing Census 2021. A cluster analysis was conducted using the k-means method to obtain groups of gminas similar in terms of human capital, whose composition was analysed with respect to the administrative status and geographical location. Then, using the Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA method, it was checked whether the economic situation of the gminas within the groups, assessed on the basis of their tax revenues, was similar or different. The research results indicate that the variability of human capital at the level of gminas can be linked to these gminas' administrative status and geographical location. It was moreover demonstrated that the heterogeneity of human capital in gminas is related to their economic situation, which is reflected in significant differences in the volumes of their tax revenues. These results explain the regularities of human capital formation in groups of gminas characterised by different economic situation, which may provide a basis for further research in this area and for the adaptation of strategies from the field of the management of local development.
