Summary/Abstract: Here is presented the content of several written statements about religiously motivated violence to which Bishop Vićentije Jovanović of Jenopolje and Arad was exposed during his visits to Orthodox churches in the district of Hălmagiu and Bihar County in 1728. The testimonies were, in all likelihood, collected for the purpose of filing a complaint with the court. They testify about the religious intolerance that part of the Hungarian nobility expressed towards the Serbian Orthodox hierarchy, but also about the transgressions of Serbian archbishops on the rights of Hungarian landowners. The material is important for understanding the complex socio-economic relations in the Habsburg Kingdom of Hungary and their limiting influence on the right of the Orthodox population to publicly profess their faith.
