Summary/Abstract: The subject of consideration of this article is the literature curriculum in the second stage of high school education which, in the context of the constructivist paradigm and the current policies in the field of school education, is connected with (an attempt at) rewriting the canon. A general overview of the imposed changes to the “mandatory” list has been made. The author comments on the main deficits and limitations which the new thematic-problematic approach and the related edition of the canon presuppose. On the other hand, some new possibilities in the field of the practical methodological experience are presented. The leading understanding is that rewriting the canon introduces a new type of contextualization and is bound directly to the fundamental role of the literary-educational discourse which aims to develop not only purely linguistic and specifically literary but also complex civic competences as a condition for personal growth and full-fledged social realization of the contemporary students. Hence to provoke a change in public attitudes, to make a step forward in the movement from the List to the Meaning.
