Summary/Abstract: On September 6, 1940, the far right triumphed in Romania, which became a “National Legionary State”. Until the official end of this type of regime (January 21, 1941), the state authorities amplified the anti-Semitic measures initiated during the Goga-Cuza government (December 1937 – February 1918) and amplified during the authoritarian rule of King Carol II (February 10, 1938 – September 6, 1940). During the time when Romania was a “National-Legionary State”, the economic persecution against Jews increased to levels never before known in the country’s history, destroying the destinies of individuals and families who had contributed to the prosperity of the localities they came from. This article, based entirely on archival documents, presents the results of the actions to confiscate rural properties owned by Jews in Câmpulung County, justified by Decree-Law 3347 of October 5, 1940.
