Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the text is to explore the obvious interrelationship between an early novel by Georgi Raychev and the Bulgarian symbolists. “Queen Neranza” presents both the reader and the researcher with a number of tests, so it is no coincidence that critical reviews after publication were almost absent, and those that appeared were far from flattering. The story is largely fragmentary, the narrative difficult to follow, the characters vaguely drawn. However, it turns out that abandoning the realistic description of prosaic situations and problems, Georgi Raychev uses symbolic imagery and confronts his unnamed main character with problems and torments typical of symbolic characters who are never sure if their lives are true or not, whether what is happening to them is reality – or a dream.
