Summary/Abstract: In the second half of the 19th century, the mindset of the Bulgarian community changed. Theocentrism was replaced by anthropocentrism. Aesthetic experience replaced Christian ethics. The individual experiences of the person became valuable. They are expressed through the forms of lyrics. Dimitar Veliksin wrote the first Bulgarian sonnet. Haralan Angelov also wrote sonnets, but they remained in his archive. Prof. Boris Yotsov printed them only in 1934. The theme of these sonnets is love. The lyrical character experiences grief, sadness, loneliness. Love cannot be achieved. The relationship between man and woman is one of a quiet drama. Grief is also about separation from the home and the parents. In a time of secularization of culture the sonnets of Haralan Angelov show the directions of the new thinking, read through the Bulgarian lyrics from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries.
