Summary/Abstract: The presented text is part of a larger study on the author’s work with the Folk Music Archive of the Institute of Art Studies (IAS), particularly the processing of field film tapes and their contents. This is the second publication preparing the placement of the fieldwork of Bulgarian music folklorists – in general, but also in particular of the one with a film camera – in the context of the general development of the discipline in the world in the 1950s and 1960s. In the previous study, the most important trends (with their priorities, methodological features, and prominent personalities) in the United States and Western Europe were presented. In the first section of this article, attention is paid to the manifestations of the syncretic connection between the scientific methodology and the methods of fieldwork in the Eastern European scientific traditions, presented in various scientific publications (from the same period or later reflections). The second section attempts to present a more comprehensive picture of the folk music archives across Eastern European countries by examining their histories, the timing of the introduction of new devices, archival processing, and their online presentation via websites and databases. In this context, chronological comparisons of the listed parameters are also used to situate the development of fieldwork in Bulgaria during the same period.
