Summary/Abstract: In his idea about the Enlightenment, the German thinker Kant puts the his-torical consciousness before the effort for new enlightenment in the sense of man’s self-over-coming along the vertical axis of his pure over-historical, reasonable nature. The article defends the thesis that if the method that determines the genesis of human consciousness (according to M. Foucault) is the dynamic unity between the autonomous and the institution-al, then the boundary to be crossed analytically in the quest for improvement, is precisely in the dynamics of this unity – not otherwise, but categorically through enlightened withdrawal activity, the expropriation of the institutional in favour of the autonomous; overcoming the historical, by virtue of the over-historical.
