Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the specific issue of human rights after the WWI. The new peace treaties create the problem of respecting the right of peoples for self-deter-mination and the rights of minorities. The new borders divide whole nations. They leave large sections of the population out of the Fatherland. In the new states, this population is subjected to repression, which leads to outright genocide. In the Balkans, these problems have always been very difficult to solve. The main opportunities for protecting the rights of minorities are created by the League of Nations. A special body is set up within this organization to monitor respect for the rights of minorities. Additional agreements are being signed between the states. These treaties create a whole system of regulations to protect the rights of minorities.
