Summary/Abstract: The article examines an underexplored aspect of Soviet-German relations – the factors influencing bilateral dynamics. Austriaheld a central position in German foreign policy, and the fate of German-speaking communities outside of Germany remained a highly sensitive issue within German society. The question of Anschluss between Germany and Austria was a major topic in bilateral relations during the 1920s and was not limited to the program of the National Socialists. The idea of an economic union (Zollverein) in the 1920s appeared feasible and was seriously considered. On this basis, the article explores the role of economic factors in the expansion and development of Soviet-German relations during this period.
