THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW BULGARIAN EDUCATION IN THE TOWN OF VIDIN DURING THE REVIVAL PERIOD

Summary/Abstract: The subject of the present research is the development of the new Bulgarian education during 19 century in the town of Vidin. It includes unpublished historical sources and presents the available data about the first monitorial and class schools and about the educational approaches and actions. In some of the sources there is also information about the management and the material support of some of the schools which is also included in the article.The processes of educational and cultural upsurge of the Bulgarians in Vidin are introduced in the context of the national development during the mentioned period of time. We highlight the characteristics of the region. The conclusion drawn is that the later ap-pearance of modern educational forms in the researched area has not been an obstacle for the establishment of a network of school institutions. That network was the main pillar of the cultural and social modernization of the Bulgarians just before the Liberation from the Ottoman rule.
