Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the sources on the origin, fortification significance and development of the forts Prusac, Vesela Straža, Susid and Kaštel in the old Slavic parish of Skoplje or Uskoplje, which includes the wider Bugojno region. They were first pointed out by Karlo Pač (Karl Ludwig Patsch, 1865- 1945), an Austrian Slavist and archaeologist, curator of the National Museum in Sarajevo from 1898-1914, and hodologically processed by Professor Esad Pašalić and later Ivo Bojanovski. Their origin is linked to the construction of Roman communications in these areas during the time of the governor Publius Cornelius Dollabela, who was the governor (propraetor) of the Roman province of Dalmatia from 14 to 20 AD. Their legal aspect, the status of the fortress and its role in relation to the surrounding area from the first sources to the Ottoman period of rule in these areas are particularly analyzed.
