Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the characteristics of the Rusyn language in Slovakia as a regional, or minority, language included in the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. It presents the dynamics of the perception of minority languages and cultures in recent decades, trends in language shifts and changes and their impact on the identity of small and stateless nations, as well as the potential emergence of literary (micro)languages, current tools created for their support, and the results of their implementation in the context of Rusyns living in Slovakia.
