Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the main assumptions of explanatory journalism. This paradigm, which has been gaining popularity recently, allows to present complex problems in an in-depth, contextual and understandable manner. The analyses of two reportages by Wojciech Jagielski: The Side of the World and The Other Side of the World were carried out using the close reading method. The research revealed which elements, that are typical for this model, could be found in these books. The study aimed to reconstruct the genological features of both books, the poetics of reportage and the method of selecting topics used by the reporter.
