Summary/Abstract: The achievement of the objectives regarding economic, social and environmentally sustainable development implies new models of action, in terms of EU and national regulations. The combination of environmental quality requirements, with those deriving from all social rights, through the involvement of private actors, in particular businesses, is part of the Union's policies and strategies on the promotion of decent work worldwide, including in global value chains. The imposition of standards is essential for the success of the European Union's sustainability objectives, but also in the interest of businesses, given the growing concern of consumers and investors about the protection of human rights and the environment. Public responsibility for the implementation of due diligence in the field of sustainability of companies is manifested in terms of the obligation to transpose the Directive into national law and to create a public order in the matter, which includes institutional aspects, infra-legal regulation and the exercise of public control.
